New BMW models: This is what the manufacturer plans to do by 2026
The future is electric, so BMW naturally wants to supply suitable models. But for the time being, there will still be popular combustion engine versions. We'll tell you what BMW's future holds.
BMW is already busy electrifying its models. But the Munich-based company continues to launch new model generations of combustion models. We'll tell you what BMW fans can look forward to in the next few years. 2025 will be an important year for BMW, as the new iX3 will be the first model to be released with influences from the highly acclaimed "Neue Klasse" study.

New BMW models 2025
BMW iX3 (New Class X)
On 5 September, the new BMW iX3 was officially unveiled in the run-up to the IAA 2025 in Munich. As the first production model with the look and technology of the new Class, BMW has high hopes for the new SUV. The new BMW iX3 has great similarities to the BMW New Class X concept study and has not only the new design language but also the latest technology, offering a range of more than 800 km and a strong charging power of up to 400 kW.
BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé
On 16 October 2024, the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé was officially unveiled. As an additional entry point into the BMW cosmos, the 2 Series Gran Coupé offers an unusual design and is to be launched on the market from March 2025.
BMW 7 Series & i7 Facelift
The new BMW 7 Series is likely to get a facelift in the second half of 2025, after all, the luxury sedan only came onto the market at the end of 2022. With the punctual update at the halfway point of its service life, major design changes seem to be in the offing. The changes are also likely to be reflected in the electric i7. New BMW models 2026
BMW 3 Series and i3 (New Class)
With the new generation of the BMW 3 Series, BMW's New Class will also find its way outside the SUV model series. The New Class serves as the basis for both combustion engines and electric models at BMW and is intended to ease the arduous path of the mobility turnaround for the Munich-based company. We expect the new 3 Series to be launched in 2026/2027 in the guise of the New Class.
BMW X5 and iX5
Der neue BMW X5 ist als Verbrenner zwar nicht direkt Teil der Neuen Klasse bei BMW, aber die Münchner nehmen zahlreiche Designelemente der Konzeptautos mit in die Gestaltung der neuen Generationen. Wahrscheinlich 2026 kommt der neue X5 und parallel dazu die E-Variante der iX5, auch wenn der iX5 noch nicht auf der Neue Klasse-Plattform basieren wird.
BMW M8-Nachfolger
BMW is very likely to envisage a powerful – and possibly electric – successor to the M8 based on the New Class platform. This could get over 1,000 hp of power. But nothing has been confirmed yet. We have created a rendering and show you what the car could look like. This is not expected before 2026.
BMW New Class Coupe
The Neue Klasse at BMW now also seems to have a coupé offshoot. At least one coupé in the design of the Neue Klasse was spotted on test drives. What exactly the test car is all about is still unclear, and new information is unlikely to be available before 2026.
BMW M3 Electric
The M3 will be launched in 2027 with a new generation and in this generation the M3 will also be available as a full-electric car for the first time. Although a combustion engine variant is being built in parallel, the top model is to be the more powerful electric M3. We have collected the first prototype pictures and information for you. An official presentation at the end of 2026 is possible.
BMW Skytop Convertible
The open-top two-seater had secured the attention of many at the presentation in October 2024 as a concept car. After all, the elegant convertible seemed to have fallen out of time after more and more convertibles are being discontinued.
Now the first prototypes of the limited production version are on test drive and we can probably look forward to the Skytop in 2026.
BMW M5 Facelift
Although the new BMW M5 will not be released until 2024, the Munich-based company is apparently already working on a facelift for the sports sedan. The facelift comes in the style of the Neue Klasse and thus promises numerous design changes and new technologies on board.
The facelift to the BMW M5 will probably not come until 2027, but BMW is probably working flat out to update the entire model range to the "New Class".
BMW iX1 2027
It is still unclear whether the new BMW iX1, which is probably planned for 2027, will "only" be a facelift or a completely new development. Disguised as a prototype, however, it clearly makes its rounds in a "New Class" look and raises hopes for a completely new generation based on the modern platform.
